SOLUTION

Multiplex rapid testing method for pathogens in vegetable seeds.

Features of the DNA chip testing method.

Existing seed testing methods require substantial time, money, and work because different methods must be conducted for different pathogens. Our new method with simultaneous DNA detection will drastically reduce time and cost to verify seed health.

TESTING PROCEDURES

Vegetable seed testing procedures

The new method tests nucleic acids extracted from seed samples with multiplex PCR and hybridization on a DNA chip, achieving multiple pathogens detection.

TECHNOLOGY

Key features of the new test method

 Simple operation
Simultaneous DNA testing drastically simplifies the process of preparing reagents.
 High precision
The two-step approach using PCR and hybridization can provide more reliable results with precise detection of target DNA.

Multiplex PCR

Selective and sensitive amplification and detection of multiple target nucleic acids achieved by techniques for:
◆1 Designing primers
◆2 Determining primer amounts and mixing ratios
◆3 Setting PCR conditions
◆4 Designing DNA probes

DNA chips

30 years of technology to manufacture DNA chips features:
◆1 Simultaneous detection of 64 pathogens
◆2 More accurate detection with a higher signal-noise ratio
◆3 High cost performance with mass production technology

Automatic testing device

 High throughput
・Up to 96 DNA chips can be measured in a single testing operation.
・It takes just 60-90 minutes from setting up the device to obtaining test results.

 Reliability
・Equipped with a QR code scanning function for sample registration, enabling accurate matching with test results.

Can be used under standard lab conditions
・Compact tabletop size (W900 x D650 x H700 mm)
・Power supply: AC 100-240 V

PRODUCTS

Testing kits for major vegetable families

We plan to launch eight types of seed testing kits, including DNA chips and multiplex PCR reagents, during the period from 2025 to 2027.

35 pathogen in Tomato detection Fluorescent hybridization by using GENOGATE CHIP

A Genogate chip made from a special type of plastic that has excellent DNA-binding properties.
The 3 mm Genogate chip is located at the center of a plastic slide and has a large number of DNA fragments immobilized on its surface. It is used for detecting target DNA.
The sample DNA that perfectly complements the DNA immobilized on the chip (universal probe) will bind to it through the principle of hybridization, which is the pairing of complementary DNA sequences—similar to the natural base pairing in DNA strands: A pairs with T, and G pairs with C. When the target DNA binds to the DNA on the chip, which includes a primer labeled with a fluorescent dye, and hybridization is complete, the chip must be washed to remove any unbound DNA.
This leaves only the target DNA bound to the chip. The chip is then scanned with a scanner to detect the resulting fluorescence signal.

Japan Consortium

Development of a Simultaneous Testing Method for Seed Hazard Pathogens Research Consortium

Funded by Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) via BRAIN, this project develops a rapid, multiplex DNA chip testing method to detect diverse pathogens in vegetable seeds for enhanced biosecurity and global trade. The initiative, collaborating with private industry, aims for international standardization of these diagnostic protocols to ensure disease-free seed distribution.
More information can be found in the BRAIN project documentation.
